Overview:

This project involves the design of a kindergarten activity room located in Chicago, USA, with an indoor area of 380m². The space is open and benefits from excellent natural lighting. The client envisions a forest-themed physical activity park tailored to children of all age groups. The kindergarten activity room will be divided into age-specific functional play areas to enhance the indoor playground's alignment with children’s developmental needs and provide a superior recreational experience.

Design Concept:

The indoor activity room integrates various forest-inspired natural elements into the overall playground design, creating a relaxed and enjoyable experience for children. Activities are designed to balance dynamic and static elements, and the room is divided into six main zones: the Main Play Area, Trampoline Zone, Traffic Simulation Zone, Soft Play and Planting Tunnel Area, Leisure and Puzzle Zone, and the Sensory Zone for Younger Children.

Zone Descriptions:

Main Play Area

The Main Play Area features a wooden structure complemented by soft padding for a comfortable touch. The central wooden house includes padded and rock-point climbing walls, tunnels, climbing nets, slides, and various obstacle games made with soft materials. The walls are adorned with interactive puzzle games. Simplistic designs of tree leaves and birds, along with a fresh palette of yellow, green, and white, create a natural and vibrant atmosphere.

Trampoline Zone

The Trampoline Zone includes three trampolines of varying sizes, allowing multiple children to play simultaneously. Kids can jump and hit interactive touch points on the walls to record their activity time. The surrounding walls are padded with tree-like designs, ensuring safety while maintaining the natural theme.

Traffic Simulation Zone

The Traffic Simulation Zone features cycling paths that loop around the Main Play Area, seamlessly connecting the various zones. This area includes a parking zone, a fuel station, and cartoon vehicles for children to ride, offering an engaging, immersive experience.

Soft Play and Planting Tunnel Area

This zone lets children enjoy the fun of exploring nature, with hill-shaped tunnels and slides surrounded by elements like mushrooms, birds, trees, and grass. It serves as a delightful natural playground for kids.

Leisure and Puzzle Zone

Designed for quieter activities, the Leisure and Puzzle Zone allows children to sit at play tables and engage with wall-mounted interactive puzzle games. This area fosters hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills, and cognitive development, stimulating imagination and intelligence.

Sensory Zone for Younger Children

The Sensory Zone for younger children features soft toys, padded flooring, and walls to ensure safety. High and low platforms, tunnels, small slides, and tactile balls are provided to help develop gross motor skills and balance in a secure and stimulating environment.
